Pretty, punchy colour and a neat habit make this an easy win for brightening up summer spaces, whether it’s a patio pot, window box or the front of a sunny border. A naturally compact, bushy shape keeps everything looking tidy, with finely divided green foliage providing a soft, fresh backdrop to the flowers.
From early summer right through to autumn, masses of soft pink, daisy-like blooms with sunny yellow centres sit proudly above the leaves, creating a cheerful display that’s also popular with bees and butterflies. It’s especially well suited to containers and smaller gardens where space matters, topping out at around 30-40cm (12-16in) without ever feeling leggy. Give it sun, free-draining soil and a quick deadhead now and then, and it will keep on flowering with very little fuss.
Marguerite ‘Aramis Girly Pink’ is a reliable, feel-good plant that delivers long-lasting colour and is best used as a half-hardy annual or tender perennial.
Pot up and grow on under glass until all risk of frost has passed and they can be planted outside in a well-prepared bed or patio pot.
Pinch out the growing tips to encourage bushiness and apply a deep, dry mulch around the base of the plant in autumn if planted in open ground and protect with cloches or plant protection fleece if hard frost is forecast.
If top growth is damaged by the frost, the plants often re-grow from the base in spring. While a perennial, marguerites are often grown as annuals.
