All of these seeds are great for beginners. If you're new to planting your own vegetable seeds, choose something that's easier to grow and doesn't require as much close attention and care.

Some vegetables require careful temperature control or special soil, so it's a good idea to build up your skills before moving onto more challenging plants. Even the best gardeners can have trouble with some vegetable seeds not growing quite right!

Radish seeds are thought to be the quickest vegetables to grow, as they can be ready to harvest within just 30 days of sowing the seeds. Another quick option is lettuce or similar salad leaves, which again can take less than a month to grow and be harvested.

Most gardeners choose to plant vegetable seeds in April after the winter frost has gone. You can sow your seeds throughout late spring, summer and early autumn to get the best results.

Hardier vegetables like onions, spring onions and broad beans can be planted a few months before the cold weather sets in. These vegetables will establish themselves over winter, as they can normally survive harsh conditions such as frost.

Easy to sow from seeds, the broad bean can be sown in late winter or spring and can grow to many different sizes. You can sow them both inside and outside depending on what you prefer. 

When sowing indoors, you can plant them in planters with cover from late winter onwards. Planting indoors is ideal if your soil is wet, rich in clay, or if you have mice that tend to frequent your garden. Soil that is too wet can rot the seeds in the ground.

When sowing outdoors, choose soil that is mild with good drainage. If it is cold, keep them covered with a fleece to protect them.

Sow seeds around 2-3 inches deep and 6-9 inches apart and water them if there hasn’t been much rainfall, when they begin to flower, and around two weeks later. 

You should plant your seeds upright with the black mark facing downwards as this allows roots to establish downwards and the shoot to grow upwards easily.

Soaking your seeds overnight in water allows them to retain moisture and germinate. However, the germination rate of broad beans is good so it isn’t a necessity.

Each plant can vary on how many pods they will produce, but it is around 15 to 20 on average. As long as you keep harvesting your plants, they will keep growing.
