Overview

Tall spikes of bell-shaped, white or greenish-white flowers appear from May to July above rosettes of hairy, scalloped, emerald-green leaves. Fringe cups make excellent semi-evergreen groundcover for a moist, shady shrub border or woodland garden. Best sheltered from cold, drying winds, they're a particularly valuable choice for difficult areas of dry shade.

Care guide

Plant this tayberry as soon as conditions allow and when soil is not frozen or waterlogged. They prefer well-drained soils but we advise keeping the plants well-watered during the first year to help establishment. Tayberries grow best when supported on wires or against a sunny wall at a of approximately 2.5m apart. 'Medana' is a primocane variety that flowers and fruits on the growth made that year. Canes can be cut down to the ground once fruiting has ended. In spring apply a general fertiliser and a mulch of rotted leaves or compost covering the root area.

Pots and Packaging
Larger pots (2L and above) are wrapped in waxed paper and then attached to a cardboard base so they stay stable in the box. The waxed paper prevents the compost from spilling out and gives the base some added protection from damp compost. For large numbers of plants, pallets may be used for shipping.

Preparation
The nursery will ensure the plant is moist while it's waiting to be picked up. Our quality control team waters the plant before packing them where necessary to make sure that the plant is suitably watered for transport. Plants with long delicate stems are secured with canes to prevent damage.
