Overview

The slender green foliage of this flowering indoor plant forms in gently splaying rosettes, and these are accompanied (usually from spring to autumn), by spectacular spear-like heads of bright red bracts. An eye-catching and easy to grow house plant, it could also be moved out onto a patio or balcony during the summer months. Please note that the pot in the photograph is not supplied with the plant (which is sent out in a simple nursery pot). They do however make excellent potted plants, and if you wish to pot yours up, we do have a wide range of pots on our website to choose from. Home care: These plants like a constant warm temperature (minimum of 15°C/59°F). As they feed through the leaves, mist the leaves regularly throughout the summer. Most importantly don't overwater, let the soil dry out between watering.

Care guide

When planting incorporate plenty of well-rotted organic matter into the planting hole. It will need some help to clamber up a tree, wall or pergola so you will need to provide some support and tie it in as it grows. Once it has developed a good framework you should shorten all the lateral shoots to within two or three buds from the main stem. It is essential that the majority of the pruning work is tackled in mid-winter as the sap tends to 'bleed' at other times of the year, but you can cut back the odd over-long stem to a healthy bud in summer.
