Do anti-barking devices really work?

Yes – anti-bark devices are an effective way to minimise unwanted barking from yours or a neighbour's dog. They are safe, however, barking is a dog’s natural instinct and sometimes their way to communicate. If you use yours too much and not for excessive barking, you could change your dog's behaviour and end up doing more harm than good.

It is also recommended that you only use the anti-bark device when you’re home. If your dog suffers from separation anxiety when you’re not home, these sorts of deterrents could cause stress and traumatise your dog.

Do ultrasonic bark stoppers work?

Noise making machines like ultrasonic bark control give off an ultrasonic, high-pitched sound when the dog barks. This noise is only audible to dogs whereas humans can’t hear it. The sound becomes annoying to the dog and serves as a correction, eventually discouraging barking and keeping the dog quiet.

Do ultrasonic anti-barking devices hurt dogs?

Ultrasonic bark deterrents aren’t harmful to your dog and instead irritates them. There is no damage to their ears unless it is too powerful or placed somewhere too close to the dog. Monitor your dog’s response to the device, and if it is causing stress, consider using an alternative method like a collar.
