There are many great reasons to choose a solar-powered water feature over a mains-powered feature. One of the most popular reasons is that solar water features are almost ridiculously easy to set up and maintain. With no wiring to hook up to an outdoor mains socket, you can place the feature almost anywhere in your garden, whereas mains-powered water features usually need to be fairly close to your house to enable the wiring to reach the power supply.

Not only can you place your solar fountain wherever you choose (so long as the solar panel has access to sunlight), but to start it up, all you need to do is situate it in a sunny spot and add water.

After the initial cost of purchasing the feature itself, there are no running costs. Whereas a mains-powered feature will add to your electricity bill, a solar water feature is powered entirely by free, renewable energy from the sun. In this way, you can not only save money and enjoy a beautiful yet very economical garden feature, but also do your bit for the environment by using eco-friendly, renewable energy instead of fossil fuels.

If you already have a mains-powered water feature and would like to take advantage of the many benefits of solar power, our solar pump kits will enable you to convert it into a solar-powered water feature.

Obviously, there is much less sunlight during the winter due to fewer daylight hours and poor weather. Therefore, if you notice a decrease in the performance of your feature, this is normal. However, the solar panels we use for our water features should continue to detect some sunlight even in winter and while they may not perform as well as they do during the summer, they should still continue to work.

We do supply a number of solar-powered water features with battery backup; this means that the solar panel will build and hold a charge during sunlight hours so that the feature can continue to work in the evenings when it has become dark, or when the weather is poor. This is a great option for those who are keen to use their water feature all year long. It will state in the product title or description if the feature has battery backup.

Because our solar-powered water features are driven by the energy of the sun, if it is a cloudy day, it might operate with less power than if it was a sunny day. Some products have a battery backup to overcome the inevitable cloudy days we have in the UK.

The same can apply to winter days – as there are fewer anticipated sunny days in the colder months, it might run slowly or stop altogether. If this is something you’re concerned about, simply choose a solar water feature with battery backup.
