Overview

Exuding elegance and sophistication, this upright herbaceous perennial boasts densely-packed spires of semi-double, dark purple-blue flowers that rise majestically above a mound of deeply-cut foliage. Delphinium 'Paramo Black Velvet' lives up to its name with blooms reminiscent of luxurious fabric, featuring an almost black centre. Flowering throughout summer on strong, branching stems, this cultivar is a magnet for pollinators and a standoutin both borders and containers. Specifically bred for cut flower production, itprovides abundant blooms for fresh and dried arrangements. The intense colour of the flowers creates a stunning contrast against the green foliage, making it an ideal choice for creating dramatic backdrops in cottage gardens or dedicated delphinium beds.

Care guide

Protect young foliage against slug and snail damage in spring. Stake with bamboo canes inmid-spring, before the flowers appear. During the growing season, apply a balanced liquid fertiliser every 2-3 weeks and wearing gloves cut back the faded flower stems to a flowering side-shoot to encourage repeat flowering. At the end of autumn cut back and compost the faded flower-stems.
