The Chelsea Chop

The Chelsea chop is a pruning technique used to encourage plants to flower later in the season. Named after the Chelsea Flower Show in May, it's typically done around late spring. Gardeners cut back early-flowering perennials, such as phlox and sedums, to delay their bloom time, promote bushier growth, and extend the flowering period into late summer.
