The new foliage of this relatively compact (for a beech), columnar tree emerges bright yellow before maturing to fresh green. As the tree ages, it forms a gorgeous taper-like shape, that makes it ideal for planting each side of a large garden entrance. It also makes a magnificent stand-alone specimen in the lawn, and like all beeches, it can tolerate a wide range of soils - including chalk.
