Overview

A magnificent tree with flaking bark in shades of grey, cream, green and brown. It has silvery-blue, rounded young leaves which give way to long, glaucous, sickle-shaped adult foliage. It is probably the most well-known gum in this country as it is often seen in milder gardens, where it is completely hardy except in abnormally cold winters.

Care guide

Requires minimal pruning if grown as a tree, removing any broken, diseased or crossing branches in late autumn or winter. For the best juvenile foliage, prune in early spring cutting back the stems to two or three buds above the base. When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly.

How your order will arrive

Pots and Packaging
Larger pots (2L and above) are wrapped in waxed paper and then attached to a cardboard base so they stay stable in the box. The waxed paper prevents the compost from spilling out and gives the base some added protection from damp compost. For large numbers of plants, pallets may be used for shipping.

Preparation
The nursery will ensure the plant is moist while it's waiting to be picked up. Our quality control team waters the plant before packing them where necessary to make sure that the plant is suitably watered for transport. Plants with long delicate stems are secured with canes to prevent damage.

Typically plants are delivered ready to plant and will take some time to settle, grow and look more like the product image above.
