Deluxe Yamakatana Hori Hori Trowel - 180mm Blade

Hori Hori knives are multi-functional landscaping knives with curved blades originating from Japan. Traditionally used for foraging Sansai (vegetables growing in the wild) in the mountains, the Hori Hori blade has become an indispensable gardening tool around the globe.

The Deluxe Yamakatana Hori Hori trowel with 180mm Blade from Maruyoshi arrives complete with a sheath for protection. It features one straight edge and one serrated edge on the blade, perfect for cutting and slicing and also sawing and hacking. The blade is curved and features an ergonomically crafted durable plastic handle with hand guard. This clever design means that with a simple twist of the wrist you can cut and lift out stubborn weeds or roots in your garden. The blade and the ergonomic handle are carefully balanced to reduce wrist fatigue. The blade's center is engraved with millimeter markings to help gage depths which is useful for a number of tasks in the garden such as bulb planting.

It cuts and scrapes weeds, roots and vegetables. Ideal for cutting roots, transplanting, removing stubborn plants, sod cutting and dividing perennials. The protective sheath keeps the blade clean and sharp while not in use but also protects you while you carry it around the garden. The sheath provides a means for convenient and safe transport while the blade handle has a notch for a hanging lanyard if required.

Can be used for digging, sawing, chopping, measuring, right through to hunting and fishing. The blade itself is polished to a beautiful mirror quality shine and the handle is riveted for heavy duty use so you can work with your Hori Hori trowel time after time without fear of wear and tear.

What does Hori Hori mean:

The Hori Hori trowel is a versatile garden tool with origins in Japan where ""hori"" ホリ is the onomatopoeia for the sound of digging. This means ""hori hori"" would literally translate as ""diggy diggy"". It has many other names in Japan to reflect its versatility whether you use it for hard work or just for odd jobs in the garden. Elegant and sleek but also robust and versatile.

Made in Japan

Maruyoshi take great pride in the blades they craft and each is manufactured using SK-5 High Carbon Blade Steel for superior edge retention. The blade is tempered to provide long lasting durability so you can reap the benefits of this beautifully crafted trowel year after year. The blade is riveted to the traditional wooden handle for added security.

Hardened Elastomer Handle

The ergonomic handle with hand guard is molded from tough and durable Elastomer plastic. This means each handle is perfectly fitted to the blade for a snug fit. With the tight fit of handle and blade there is less chance of water or debris penetrating the seal and degrading the steel over the years. You can look forward to many years of use from your Deluxe Yamakatana Hori Hori blade.
