Metal Gazebo FAQs
How long do metal gazebos last?
Providing that you take proper care of your metal gazebo, you can expect it to last for approximately ten years – potentially up to fifteen! Good quality metal gazebos like those you’ll find in our collection should be designed to prevent rust, which if you keep the metal gazebo up throughout the winter, is likely to develop otherwise.
Do you need planning permission for a metal gazebo?
This depends on two things – how long the gazebo is up for, and how tall the gazebo is.
You’re typically allowed to have a gazebo up for less than 28 days without planning consent, and structures less than 2.5 metres in height and less than 2 metres from the property boundary don’t usually require planning permission.Do check with your local authority as local restrictions may apply.
Should a metal gazebo be grounded?
Lightning strikes may not be a frequent occurrence, but a large metal structure in your garden during one could be cause for reasonable concern. Metal gazebos don’t attract lightning, but they will conduct it if struck.
While we’d always recommend simply avoiding using your gazebo during a lightning storm, grounding your gazebo can make it safer should lightning strike unexpectedly.Copper rods that are attached to the legs of your gazebo and go at least 6 inches into the ground will serve as excellent grounding tools if you’re leaving your gazebo up on a more permanent basis. This will aim to direct the strike directly into the ground instead of flowing through to anyone near the gazebo.
Are metal gazebos sturdy?
This entirely depends on the type of gazebo you choose. Some of our metal gazebos are designed to be temporary structures that can quickly be erected and taken down – meaning they’re slightly less sturdy than their semi-permanent counterparts.
Often, metal gazebos with a properly installed canopy or sail shade are sturdier options that are more likely to be able to withstand the great British weather throughout the winter months.
