Overview

A lovely, slow-growing, medium-sized tree, this maple is grown not only for its decorative bark, but also for its autumn foliage colour. The bark is the colour of cinnamon, and peels away naturally in thin layers, hence this tree's common name, paper bark. The leaves are deeply cut and maple-like, and turn brilliant shades of orange and scarlet in autumn. This tree has been grown to encourage a bushy, multi-stemmed habit. Plant it in full view of your windows to enjoy the bark all year round.

Care guide

Add a top-dressing of a multi-purpose fertiliser around the base of a recently planted tree in late spring and keep well watered. No routine pruning is necessary, but you can remove any dead, damaged or crossing branches in mid-winter when the plants are fully dormant. Avoid pruning at any other time of the year as acers tend to 'bleed' sap if cut while they are actively growing.

How your order will arrive

Pots and Packaging
Larger pots (2L and above) are wrapped in waxed paper and then attached to a cardboard base so they stay stable in the box. The waxed paper prevents the compost from spilling out and gives the base some added protection from damp compost. For large numbers of plants, pallets may be used for shipping.

Preparation
The nursery will ensure the plant is moist while it's waiting to be picked up. Our quality control team waters the plant before packing them where necessary to make sure that the plant is suitably watered for transport. Plants with long delicate stems are secured with canes to prevent damage.
