Overview

Edible leaves and button-like flowers. One of the main reasons for growing chives is to harvest the edible leaves, which enhance the flavour of many savoury dishes. This vigorous plant also produces clusters of brilliant pink to purple or white, button-like summer flowers, which are also edible and look wonderful sprinkled over summer salads. It's perfect for a sunny, well-drained border or gravel garden.

Care guide

Alliums are drought tolerant and watering plants grown in the ground is not usually necessary. Plants dislike summer irrigation because this may cause the bulbs to rot, however plants in containers may need supplementary water. Deadhead spent flower heads at the base and divide congested clumps after flowers and foliage has died down. Avoid excessive moisture from late summer when dormant.

Pots and Packaging
Our 9cm pots are given extra packaging to protect the plant. This extra packaging consists of a recyclable plastic blister pack which is then placed in a cardboard box for delivery.

Preparation
The nursery will ensure the plant is moist while it's waiting to be picked up. Our quality control team waters the plant before packing them where necessary to make sure that the plant is suitably watered for transport. Plants with long delicate stems are secured with canes to prevent damage.

Typically plants are delivered ready to plant and will take some time to settle, grow and look more like the product image above.
