Overview

Rising gracefully from tufted clumps of rich green foliage, Carex grayi is a distinctive perennial, ornamental grass that adds long-lasting interest to the garden. Throughout the summer months, it unveils mid-green flower spikes, a delicate contrast against the verdant backdrop, which give way to spiky, pale green seedheads. Whether nestled at the front of a border or among other plants, especially compact perennials and grasses, or gracing the water's edge of a pond, this sedge adds a touch of sophistication to any reliably damp or shallow aquatic setting.

Care guide

Reliable in wet or very moist, ‘boggy’ fertile soils, this acorus can be planted in aquatic baskets (to reduce root disturbance) in shallow water up to 5cm. Divide congested clumps in early spring every few years. Wearing gloves, comb through old or damaged foliage in late winter to tidy if necessary.
