Overview

A perennial cardoon with purple, thistle-like flowers and silver leaves. Huge, purple, thistle-like flowers from June to September held above enormous clumps of deeply-cut, silvery-green leaves. This magnificent, architectural plant is perfect towards the back of a mixed or herbaceous border. For the best results it needs full sun, lots of space and shelter from strong winds.

Care guide

Avoid the temptation to remove the faded flower-heads in autumn as they provide interest in the winter garden. Where temperatures fall below -15;C (5;F) protect the crown of the plant with a dry winter, straw mulch.

How your order will arrive

Pots and Packaging
Our 9cm pots are given extra packaging to protect the plant. This extra packaging consists of a recyclable plastic blister pack which is then placed in a cardboard box for delivery.

Preparation
The nursery will ensure the plant is moist while it's waiting to be picked up. Our quality control team waters the plant before packing them where necessary to make sure that the plant is suitably watered for transport. Plants with long delicate stems are secured with canes to prevent damage.

Typically plants are delivered ready to plant and will take some time to settle, grow and look more like the product image above.
