Overview

A distinctive semi-evergreen shrub featuring compact, ovate dark green leaves and fragrant white flowers in early summer, succeeded by blue-black berries from August to January. Unlike the commonplace common privet, this variety stands out with its small, glossy leaves and gracefully arching branches, making it a versatile choice for hedges, topiary, bonsai, or pot planting. Ligustrum delavayanum, beyond its ornamental appeal, is easy to grow, and showcases a delightful fragrance, setting it apart as a captivating and adaptable addition to British gardens. Dry tolerant once established.

Care guide

Clip foliage to maintain the shape in late spring or summer. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) layer of mulch around the base of the plant in autumn.
