Beautiful racemes of flowers

A vigorous climber, this plant brings beautiful racemes of flowers to your garden. Complimented by vivid, decidious, pinnate foliage that will fill your green space with breathtaking colour. This beautiful japanese wisteria bears purple and violet flowers, with hints of white and pink and a stunning yellow eye. A RHS award of garden merit recipient, it's a wonderful addition to your garden. Happy in full sun or a partially shaded spot, make sure its soil is moist but well-drained, and prune it twice a year to keep it happy and healthy.

Care guide

Wisteria is easy to grow. Their growth and output can be excellent providing you follow our planting and care instructions. Below we address some common query topics: Hardiness: Wisteria originates from climates that have far colder climates than that of the UK, so they will make a fully hardy addition to your garden. Position: Wisteria plants require full sun, and only sinensis varieties are suitable for light shade. As a rule, wisteria species with long racemes look best when growing up pergolas, while species with short racemes look best when growing up a wall. We therefore recommend that you buy floribunda varieties for pergolas and sinensis, and brachybotrys and frutescens varieties for walls. Lastly, as wisterias form thick woody roots, you should avoid having to re-plant them. Soil: Belonging to the legume family, Wisteria is able to fix nitrogen from the atmosphere, so does not require as much fertilising as other plants do. Your wisteria will flourish in most soils that are not compacted or waterlogged.

How your order will arrive

Pots and Packaging
Larger pots (2L and above) are wrapped in waxed paper and then attached to a cardboard base so they stay stable in the box. The waxed paper prevents the compost from spilling out and gives the base some added protection from damp compost. For large numbers of plants, pallets may be used for shipping.

Preparation
The nursery will ensure the plant is moist while it's waiting to be picked up. Our quality control team waters the plant before packing them where necessary to make sure that the plant is suitably watered for transport. Plants with long delicate stems are secured with canes to prevent damage.
