Can you leave waterproof shade sails up all year?
While our shade sails are built to withstand sun and rain, they should be taken down if it is snowing or there are strong winds. However, if your shade sail is attached in an area where snow won't lay on it, it should be fine in winter. For a more detailed guide, have a look at our blog post 'Can You Leave a Sail Shade Up All Year?'.
Are sail shades waterproof?
Our Premium Waterproof Sail Shades are fully waterproof (300 to 500mm of water column). We advise to install the Waterproof Sail Shade with a slope (15 to 30 degrees) to allow water to run off. This will avoid the water from pooling and damaging the fabric over time.
How do you maintain shade sails?
To clean your shade sail, apply detergent using a soft-bristled brush and rinse with a hose or bucket of water. For stubborn marks and stains, you can use a high-pressure water cleaner on a low setting at a safe distance from your sail. Clean regularly and avoid strong detergents so that you don't damage the fabric. Give it plenty of time to dry before you hang it back up – this can take around 24 hours.
In between cleans, you can use a long-handled broom to scrape foliage and dirt from it and to keep it looking better for longer. If you notice it is starting to grow mould, you can spray a mild cleaner, let it soak for a few minutes, and then scrub it clean. For a more in-depth guide, check out 'How to Clean a Sail Shade'.
How do you store a shade sail?
When you take it down, make sure you store it in its protective bag when it is completely dry. Roll it up properly so that you don't crease or damage it.
