Overview

A characterful plant that can fit into any collection, the rubber tree plant is an impressive variety for any plant collection. It's also easy to care for, so it's a great house plant for beginners. Called a tree for good reason, outside in their natural environment these plants can grow to over 100 feet tall with 6 feet wide trunks! Thankfully they won't reach these heights when potted indoors but you'll love their large beautiful glossy leaves which you can only get from a smaller plant. New growth is a thrill to watch as leaves emerge in sheaths which are eventually dropped as the leaf unfurls. NASA has also rated the rubber tree plant as one of the best plants for purifying the air.

The leaves of this variety are a beautiful variegated style of pale green and white with the distinctive red stem running along the back of each leaf.

Care guide

Your plant will be happy in a well-lit location. With most houseplants it is best to avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch their leaves. We believe that a little way back from a window in a bright room is optimum.

The foliage of your plant may become a little dusty, so just wipe them down with a damp cloth occasionally (try not to come into direct contact with the plant).

Advice on hot and droopy plants

If your plants are looking a little wilted right now, don't worry! Plants like to be filled with water to keep their structure, and when it's hot that water evaporates.

Just give them an off-schedule watering and they'll be right as rain in no time! Be careful not to flood them - plants don't like extremes.

Preferred location: Happiest in bright light - bright filtered light is best.
Temperature range: 15 - 25C
Watering requirements: Once a week in summer, once every two weeks in winter.
