Overview

A naturally compact fig, bred specifically for its dwarfing habit, 'Miss Figgy' is ideal for smaller spaces. Its foliage looks just the same as the larger species, but it forms on smaller, well-balanced plants, which are perfect for the patio. The fruit it can produce (usually after a long, hot summer), is delicious baked with maple syrup and and served with a dollop of mascarpone cheese - washed down with an espresso or liqueuré–yum!

Care guide

If grown for its fruit, pot it up to restrict the roots, and either grow it on the patio, or sink the pot into the ground. Prune in spring when all chance of frost has past. Remove any frost-damaged or weak branches, and thin out shoots to let light in. Some pruning may be required in summer to encourage bushier growth. If so, trim all new shoots back to five or six leaves.Figs are capable of producing three crops of fruit every year, but in our climate it is the tiny little ones that you find tucked into the leaf axils in autumn, that if protected from frosts, will go on to ripen in their second summer. Therefore if you are growing the fig for its fruit rather than its foliage, you should remove any developing fruits that are larger than a pea in autumn, and either cover the crown of the tree with a blanket of frost fleece or try to gently pack it with straw. This will keep them snug and warm throughout winter and push the plants energy into the development of the young fruits, which should grow into fully ripened figs next year.

How your order will arrive

Pots and Packaging
Larger pots (2L and above) are wrapped in waxed paper and then attached to a cardboard base so they stay stable in the box. The waxed paper prevents the compost from spilling out and gives the base some added protection from damp compost. For large numbers of plants, pallets may be used for shipping.

Preparation
The nursery will ensure the plant is moist while it's waiting to be picked up. Our quality control team waters the plant before packing them where necessary to make sure that the plant is suitably watered for transport. Plants with long delicate stems are secured with canes to prevent damage.

Typically plants are delivered ready to plant and will take some time to settle, grow and look more like the product image above.
