Overview

Olla originates from the Latin Cultures, meaning 'pot-bellied pot'. Ollas were traditionally used for cooking, storage and ceremonial use and made from terracotta.

The Olla is thought to have originated from North Africa but, records going back over 2000 years show China has used them, but, this system has stood the test of time in many traditional cultures.

This handmade, unglazed clay Olla is a simple and effective means of conserving water in your garden. You initiate a natural irrigation process by burying the pot among your plants in a garden, bed, or planter and filling it with water. The plant roots draw water from the pot ensuring the soil remains consistently moist. When the soil is adequately hydrated, the pot ceases to release water

Depending on your plant's water requirements, the pot may only need refilling once or twice a week, ultimately reducing garden water consumption by as much as 70%. For added convenience, the Olla can be sealed using the included cork, preventing water evaporation and further enhancing water conservation.

Care guide

Ollas require almost no maintenance.

However, if you live in an area where the water is very calcareous (lime or chalky) you can clean it occasionally with a sponge and a little diluted white vinegar, or rainwater.
