Extremely fast growing (60-90cm per annum) and dense, cypress hedging is perfect if you want to create a screen fast. However, it is essential that they be clipped, for they can grow to an unmanageable 30cm high. We'd recommend, you trim once per year between May and August, when the Spring growth period is over, stopping short of dead wood. For otherwise, there will be no new growth, resulting in gaps of brown in your hedge.
