Native to the UK, elderberry hedging is distinctive for its serrated, pinnate leaves, clustered black berries and creamy flowers. A great resource for recipes both flowers and berries are edible, the former turned into champagne and cordial, the latter cooked into pies and jams. Deciduous, its leaves are long lasting, coming into leaf in January and enduring till November. Both 'Black Beauty' and 'Black Elder' are superficially similar with gorgeous dark purple leaves and pink flowers and benefit from full sun to achieve the best foliage colour.
